Hmm, try a more verticly squished font, so that you can make the division through 'It's War' smaller. Maybe Verdana or 'The Real Font' (the real font is downloaded, but you can find it on just about any font downloading website)

God, that was forever ago. I'm too bloody lazy to write up a minimovie tutorial, so I'm just going to link to this tutorial at icon_tutorial@lj. It's essentially the same thing.

Sadly Kitty has no moneys to buy spiffy programs to make such icons with D:

Wooo, I found a cool free program to make avatars with. I am reallly new at this so I understand if you guys don't like it very well. This was based very loosely on K's Evil!Terra tutorial, and I mean loosely. Anyways, what do you guys think of it?

Hey K, could you make a tutorial for the Terra one you have right now?

Okay.
Icon inspired by icon 15 at ffx_x2_awards@lj
Make this template from it. The brown is there to show you the template. I'm going to keep the brown there until I have all three pictures on the template.
http://images.titansgo.net/screenshots/210/092.jpg
Take that screen, crop to Terra's eyes. Width 100, height somewhere around 40. Bring up the brightness and conrast by 30. Duplicate the layer, set it to screen. Shift+Ctrl+C to copy both layers as one.
Paste it on there, under the white template. Duplicate the layer, set the duplicated layer to Hard Light.
http://images.titansgo.net/screenshots/210/172.jpg
Take that screen, do what you did with the first one again.
Again, crop it, slap it on there under the first Terra layer. Duplicate the layer, set it to Hard Light again.
http://images.titansgo.net/screenshots/210/223.jpg
Take that screen, lather, rinse, repeat.
Paste the layer on there, lather, rinse, repeat.
Take that gradient by Colorfilter, slap it under the template but over your Terra layers. Set the blend mode as Overlay.
You should have this by now.
Take this texture by Gender@lj, set the opacity to 70%, blend mode as Soft Light.
Which gives you this.
Take this texture by Gender, blend mode of Soft Light, opacity of 70%.
Take this gradient by Colorfilter, set its blend mode to Screen.
You have this. Now, add text, font as Arial, size 2, colour #169BFB, all caps, add these lyrics from Dashboard Confessional - Saints and Sailors (...yes, I listen to Dashboard. ...STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT! ._.) : "you smile like a saint but you curse like a sailor" on the first break thingie.
With your settings the same, add "your eyes say the joke's on me" in all caps on the second break.
Aaaaaaand I'm spent.

Wow, your avatars are some of the best I've seen. What's the average time you spend on them? If you don't mind me asking... ^^; It just looks like you take some time to make them and they turn out great. =)
I'm loving your current avatar, and I'm definately going to try this out once I can get on my own computer again. I'll have to check back here once in a while to see if you have any new tutorials up. =D

I have Paint Shop Pro 8 and I am still trying to figure the darn thing out. I have the blending and stuff down, but I can't make text look right. Any ideas?~Oh! And awsome avatars! They are top notch!

Heh, thank you ^^; Average time? Oh, maybe 20 minutes. I think my record for an icon is 7 minutes (this one, but I probably could have trimmed that down to about 4 if I hadn't tried to screw around with it so much. A lot of the time I take is just on experimenting with textures and gradients and getting a better idea of how I want the icon to look.

Heh, I'm becoming a whore for tutorial making. You're always free to request one whenever you want. If I can't make it, I can link you to some good ones ^_^

Which text? Regular or the split kind? Cos if it's regular, just make sure the text is anti-aliased and you should be fine. If it's for the split text, make sure the layers you want to erase on are rasterized (keep your original text layer, but make it invisible, just in case you need to go back and edit something or you messed up on one layer and need to fix it, etc). If you can give me specifics about what problem you're having, I'll be glad to help.

umm...I know this is going to be a lot. I just do. But you just rock at avatars! Okay. So, if you don't feel like doing it, just don't. These are some avatars you made for people that requested...so...here they are:
mainly the animation and text oppacity
mainly the background-erasing.
mainly the glowing-ness.
AND...where do you find bases/textures/w.e? I know colorfilter and gender @ lj, but that's it...

Sure ^_^ Btw, I just noticed you're from Billings ^^ Yay, Montana
| capa4mer wrote: | | |
First, it's "opacity," with one "p." Second here's the tutorial I learned the image transition from.
| Quote: |
mainly the background-erasing. |
I didn't actually erase the background. What I did is what I do on a lot of my icons -- paste the textures on and erase in the shape of, in this case, Terra. If you want an example of that, check out my Belle and the Beast tutorial.
| Quote: |
mainly the glowing-ness. |
I'm not sure what you mean by "glowing-ness?" With those, all I did was add a couple gradients.
| Quote: | | AND...where do you find bases/textures/w.e? I know colorfilter and gender @ lj, but that's it... |
Bases for images I either screencap myself or take from TGN. Textures are from, as stated before, Colorfilter and Gender on Livejournal.

What font did you use on the "Everyone has a Secret" one?

Hmmmm, that is strange. I looke through gender's profile at Livejournal and couldn't find the Betrayal texture used in the adjective icon for Terra or the Joyous one blah used for her Starfire one.

Arial for "everyone has a" and Lainie Day SH for "Secret."

The "Betrayal" one is in either base set 16 or 17. I think it's in 17. Yeah. The "joyous" one was just that texture edited a bit by Blah for that Star icon.

Actually, I used a different texture than the "Betrayal" one. It's this:
by colorfilter and then added the text.
